HILLARY A. MATOS is an associate attorney at GIFFORD, DEARING & ABERNATHY, LLP, with a practice focused on trust and estate litigation, conservatorships, estate planning, and estate administration.
Hillary earned her law degree from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where she was awarded the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, the Benjamin E. King Scholarship, and the Dorothy L. Weller Scholarship. While at UCLA Law, Hillary interned for the California Attorney General’s Office and the County of Los Angeles.  Additionally, Hillary was selected to serve on UCLA Law Review, where she served as an Associate Editor.
Following law school, Hillary worked as a Deputy County Counsel for the County of San Luis Obispo, where she handled a broad range of advisory and transactional legal matters. She advised multiple County departments regarding healthcare and mental health law, land use and environmental law, privacy compliance, trusts and estates, and contracts. Additionally, she represented the Public Guardian in probate conservatorship and LPS (mental health) conservatorship hearings. Hillary authored trial court and appellate briefs on a range of subject matter, consistently receiving favorable rulings for the County. Her first appellate brief resulted in a published opinion by the 2nd District California Court of Appeal, in which the Court ruled in favor of the County on all issues.
Hillary received her B.S. degree in Environmental Science from Principia College and worked as an elementary science teacher before attending law school.
